"Houston, We Have A Problem..." (TEXT POST)

Hi there...
You may have noticed there hasn't been a comic in a couple of days. Well, there's a reason for that. A super-nasty virus attacked my desktop and as a result (A) I can't connect to the Internet; and (B) even though everything else seems to work, my computer is telling me if I don't reactivate Windows in less than two days, then, well, tough luck, kiddo!
At this point I've tried everything except punching it (which I did to my very first PC...boy, THAT was a mistake!). I have XP and I followed the instructions for a "repair install," but because it's a partitioned drive, it won't give me the option to repair, just to overwrite! I even tried re-partitioning the main drive so that the main PC just has one drive. Nope. Windows still says it's partitioned. It's overwrite, or no soap.
My only hope now is to do a "clean install," which means I'll have to reinstall everything else that's non-Windows manually. My biggest concern is whether or not I can get DSL up and running. I keep hearing horror stories of people not being able to reactivate their DSL after a reinstall and so-called tech support people providing not very much in the way of help.
(BTW, I'm using an old PC to post this message, but it's very slow, has BIOS issues, crashes regularly and is very virus-prone! Which is why I ditched this one in favor of the one I'm now trying to fix!)
And on top of that, work, home, and other real life issues are interfering not only with getting this damned PC fixed, but also with the comic strip as well. So, after three-and-a-quarter years of silliness, maybe it's just as well I take a break at this point, at least to recharge my batteries, if not to fix my piece-of-crap PC.
On the plus side, I'm due a very nice tax refund from the IRS this year. Maybe it's time to invest in a laptop...
Well, back to the salt mines. And don't worry, I'm not leaving you guys forever. To quote Douglas MacArthur: "I shall return...!"
Cheers!
Rich
